I began my new Challenge groups in the beginning of November and all of the challengers were so excited to get started and motivated that they would be the one’s to FINISH their programs and have the success they have been looking for and better yet, be entered to win the $100,000 grand prize. Thanksgiving hit, then Christmas, then New Years. I have to say everyone was incredibly good during Thanksgiving, and all on the same page. They were focused and determined to not fall off the wagon and they did awesome. Then Christmas hit, woo wee in for a rocky road. Family visiting, sweet temptation galore, holiday parties scheduled during their workout times. What I found was that people fell away and were afraid to then post when they were not perfect. So this nice support system was slowly pulling away because life was getting in the way. I didn’t know what to expect during the holidays as these challenges had provided a more intimate setting where we really know what each other is doing in their daily lives and really began to feel a close bond. Unlike any other challenge I had ever run before. So, what happened and how is it that the holidays are not the only reasons why we lose focus?
Truthfully, life totally gets in the way, especially during the holidays. We get totally busy and then we panic and don’t know when are we gonna get it all done, WE NEED TO BE PERFECT or we will fail. “Everyone that has these Amazing results never failed and they were 100% perfect” WRONG! Those with amazing results are humans just like us. We get so darn frustrated with ourselves that we are afraid to tell anyone what we did and then take pity on ourselves for “screwing up” ”Oh my gosh what did I do I screwed up I didn’t workout twice this week, the whole 90 days are SHOT, I might as well just skip my workout, because now there is no way I can catch up and get those results.” Then Boom we have just completely self sabotaged ourselves. We have dug ourselves deeper into that hole we began in. Then we feel guilty and don’t want to post because we feel like a failure and no one wants to be around a failure. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Well, I am here to say We are Not Perfect. I have been doing Beachbody Programs for the last 2 1/2 years. When I did my first round of P90x ages ago I had amazing results…Was I perfect? No but I was so determined to get through 90 days of a program that even with those bumpy moments I pulled myself up and said 64 more days, cross that off the calendar. I chose to eat clean but heck after hockey on Thursday nights I had a beer instead of food…To me it was still worth living, I was making a huge lifestyle change and if I could enjoy a beer once a week, all this sacrifice was totally worth it for me. I was just like any other working mother, worked, came home to tend to my family and yes worked out at 11pm, because I knew that I didn’t want to be in this body any longer. Guess what happened, I had amazing results at day 90! Did I have amazing results at day 30, gosh NO if it weren’t for the camera, I could have thrown in the towel because well I had worked so hard for 30 days and ate so well, I see nothing and the scale hardly moved. Did I give up, NO, I knew that 90 days was only 3 months. Let’s take a big picture look! How long did it take you to get to where you are unhappy, unhealthy, and overweight? 3 months? Heck NO! So what do you think 30 days would do for you, get you back to your 16 year old body? No, sucking it up knowing the Rome was not built in a day, 3 months aint so bad.
So Why do we lose focus?
- We are making a huge change in our life.
- We are eating Healthy, a huge difference then our past.
- We are seeing other people with success stories and losing weight and we are not.
- We feel like we are depriving ourselves so we should see results sooner then later.
- Life is getting in my way!
How do we break that so that we complete a program and make it a total lifestyle change?
- Work on ourselves mentally, start reading 10 min a day of personal development books. We are changing our bodies but our minds are also changing and we need to be in the right mindset to handle it.
- Set a Game Plan for yourself, know your schedule ahead of time, print your calendar and look at it the night before so that you know what you have the next day and that it is reminding you in your head all day of it, so there is no question when you get home and are exhausted.
- Plan your meals, we tend to cheat and dong think we are. We are working hard so why can’t we have that latte? If you had your meals planned then there is no room for the big cheats and a lot of times one cheat in a day turns into a whole day of “oh well the day is shot”. Write down everything you possibly eat in a day you will be surprised. Great App to use: www.myfitnesspal.com
- Push yourself, BELIEVE that you are stronger then you think you are.
- Print that workout schedule and post it on your door, mirror, fridge, so that you know that You will be working out TODAY with THAT workout, even if it is at 11pm because the kids haven’t gotten to bed (do you want to be in that body anymore???)
- Look at the Big Picture, ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY…It took you a while to get where you are so it is gonna take you a while to get you where you want to be. I am 2 1/2 years into my journey and I am not where I want to be but I am so determined that I will get there Whenever that may be.
- DECIDE, COMMIT, SUCCEED
- Join a Challenge group..you have the support of 4 others pulling for you, all the while you can help make a difference in their lives.
- Become a Beachbody Coach…I became a coach first because I knew that if I was then I would have be be a product of the product and a good role better, what better of an accountability tool is that? Coaching in turn gave me my own accountability to myself, put me in a position to be a great role model for my kids, gives me the joy of helping others while working on myself, has given me financial security (as a bonus)
So, as my Challenge groups move forward those that have fallen off the wagon are peeking their heads up, and I am hoping they continue to move forward with their original goals and WHY’s. Those that are pushing strong I encourage to jump in and pay it forward and help those that are having a tough day, we all do. But we are a work in PROGRESS not PERFECT.

I’m pretty sure that picture isn’t me, but man I have felt that way before!
I always have to remind myself about that premise..that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Thanks for keeping it real, Anna!
