Ok so you have heard of Country Heat but you are either skeptical about whether this country line dancing thing actually works or you are just curious if anyone has every done it.  Well I am here to tell you #1 its the real deal #2 it works!  How do I know this before the program has even launched (set to launch August of 2016)?  I was chosen to be in the Beachbody coach test group for this program which I found very ironic.  See, I love to lift weights and I hate CARDIO and hate to DANCE.  So, why would I agree to do this?  One reason —– WHO passes up an opportunity to be one of 50 coaches in a network of nearly 400.000 coaches.  That’s why.

So, when chosen I decided to make the best of this opportunity and just KILL IT!  That is exactly what I did and I am going to share my experience as best I can with it below so that you can make an educated decision on whether or not to commit to this program.

Some details about the program itself:

  • It is a 30 day program that runs 6 days a week with 1 rest day
  • It follows a meal plan that uses the Portion Control system 
  • Meal Plan comes with how many containers you are allowed as well as what foods are allowed
  • Workouts are 30 minutes long and follow a specific schedule
  • Each workout comes with a “watch this first” DVD so that you can break down the dance moves easily before doing the actual workout.
  • Workouts do have a modifier you can follow however there is very little modification needed.
  • Music is fun and upbeat, I have a hard time calling it country (I don’t really know country but this music was fun and upbeat)

Country Heat will be launched July 28, 2016 to the Network!! I have been lucky enough to call it my workout for the last 47 days since chosen to be in the Coach Test Group by Beachbody.  You have to trust me on this one ANYONE can do this! Any age, any size, any gender!   Every single workout has had me SWEATING like a dang pig.

Tips on how I followed this program:

  • I HIGHLY recommend you watching the “watch this first” videos before each workout for the first week and a half.  You will not be stepping on your toes or over yourself if you don’t — FAIR WARNING.
  • I drank Vegan Shakeology with water and ice every single day of the program (I have been drinking it religiously now for over 6 years)
  • I did my workouts in my socks or barefoot on carpet as my feet kept getting caught on the carpet using shoes.
  • I used Energize preworkout before every workout.
  • I did not miss one workout but on occasion moved my rest day during the week to meet prior engagements.
  • I never dreaded one workout
  • I worked out after an 8 hour shift in the Operating Room everyday
  • I grew out of my self-conscious dance shell.

How to combine your passion for nursing and fitness

Some of us were athletes in high school and college, some of us picked up going to the gym in college and most of us will never lose the love of being fit and healthy.  We could never imagine doing anything with our love for it because we spent our long hours studying for the NCLEX and have been a part of the very prestigious careers of nursing.  We love being a nurse and we love feeling great and want others to feel the same way.  ESPECIALLY our patients.

I came across a message thread recently that led me to this post.  There were so many people who fell into this category that just felt lost about what to do next. Some of them were group fitness instructors and Registered Nurses, some thought about achieving more certificates, some wanted to open a gym, but all wanted to find a way to combine the both and just didn’t know how.

I thought, WOW they don’t have any idea of the information I know to be true and have been living for the last almost 7 years.  I have found the holy grail, I swear!

So, I will spell it out how you really can use both loves to earn a living and most importantly help you fulfill your destiny in life.   There is nothing wrong with having two passions.

For me I needed a way to lose weight as I had fallen into the trap of “eat whatever is in the break room” – Yes you know what I am talking about.  I ballooned up to 205 lbs and felt disgusting.  In 2009, I found a solution that has literally changed my physical, mental and financial life.  I had no idea that it would.  I just needed to change myself.

Once I took control of my life following a very laid out plan I could do on my own time (as you know we Nurses tend to be CRAZY busy and EXHAUSTED).  So I was able to get my workouts done late at night when the kids were asleep, I followed a meal plan that I could prep and take to work and I was on my way to avoiding the break room donuts.  But as you know there are so many other nurses that feel they are too busy, too tired and too distracted to have a plan and eventually spiral themselves into being those unhealthy, overweight nurses we see everyday.  The Struggle is REAL!

So how does that translate into using your passion for nursing and fitness into helping others?  Well see there was a business opportunity that I was presented after I finished my first workout program where I would continue to work on my journey but instead of keeping to myself I would share it with others.  I would refer others to programs that would meet their health needs.  I would recommend a dense health food shake instead of all those synthetic powders that people tend to grasp for in a pinch.  By providing meal plans that I have used, online support groups to help them along the journey in the privacy of a group.  What I found was that many of the people that have worked with didn’t have the support at home.

  1. You own your own business from the start, you are you and are not the company.
    1. Most people feel they don’t want to sell something because they want to be themselves, great news is you are YOU
  2. You are always working on your own fitness and nutrition journey first.
    1. I like to refer to this as “putting on your own oxygen mask first before you help others”
  3. You do not have to build a business on your own
    1. I have a team of 1000 coaches who work together and support each other.
  4. You don’t have to be at your final goal weight or goal body to coach.  Just like as a nurse, you connect with your clients like you do your patients, while you are on the journey.

Can I still be a Registered Nurse and work as a coach?

  1. I personally worked as an RN in Clinical IT after years of being in the OR and management and then walked away from nursing to pursue my Beachbody Business since I had matched my salary in my business.  The last two years have been amazing and have allowed me so much freedom with my family.  So much that I was able to return to nursing in a capacity that I missed and love, the OR again.  Building my business and working as a nurse brings fulfillment in more ways then one.  I think only a way a nurse “gets”

What do I have to do to get started?

  1. Decide on following a fitness plan, commit to drinking a whole food dense nutrition shake that will help you get through your nurse shifts and inspire your fellow peers to say “what are you drinking that gives you so much energy?”
  2. Connect with your team of coaches and dig into the training that I provide.  I know nurses make amazing coaches, we strive at being better, at learning how to help people and be their advocates.  There really is no difference between nursing and coaching, the biggest difference is that you can build some financial security and be fulfilled all in one.

22 Minute Hard Corps Week 1 | Women’s results

Today I sit and schedule and prep for the start of my next adventure.  See, as soon as Beachbody program comes out I am ready to commit to it as I know they are built for success.  Some programs I am more excited for than others but I do dig into all of them.

As I sat on my cruise in my bikini or lay in my bed on my side, I know just by feel that I am desperately in need of getting back to feeling amazing in my clothes.  I have muffin top syndrome going on right now.  In my eyes I have let myself go.  I have been lacking motivation since almost completing Hammer Master and Chisel (I love that program but life hit me with a curve ball and I had a hard time getting back on the wagon with it).  I am terrified of stepping on the scale in the morning and taking measurements.  I haven’t done that since my TEST GROUP experience with PIYO.  But I have committed to myself and am treating this as if I am in the test group for this program.  I know with that mentality, it is what keeps me pushing everyday including the days I want a big glass of wine or I just want to sleep in and not workout.

My love for Tony Horton is strong.  He was my Beachbody First Love!  So, I will do everything in my power to complete this program EVEN with the Women’s Hockey National Tournament in 1 1/2 weeks.  Traveling on the meal plan will be the most difficult thing to do I will admit.  My goal for the next week and a half is to figure out how to stay on track while traveling to Minnesota.  I am happy that this workout is only 22 minutes and I can stream it on the new Beachbody On Demand App.  (If you have the program, email me and I can share with you how to stream it on an app)

Here is my first go around on the meal planning and I have to tell you that THIS MEAL PLAN is the BEST meal plan that Beachbody has ever done.  They have listened to the consumers and coaches over the years and have blown my mind with how simple it is to follow!!!

I will be hitting the Grocery Store today on the quest to make it super simple to follow and not to bore myself so that I can really just focus on getting my workouts done and not stress about the food.
