Push Up Challenge for June

I am so excited to have joined a Challenge that appears to be too hard at first but I feel like it is the perfect challenge to complete for those P90 grads who are doing weekly Hybrid workouts like myself. I am up and ready for it. Got a Beach Trip scheduled at the end of June and would love to say I did it. So here is the challenge.

MEN: There are women who will complete this challenge. Will you???
WOMEN: Show the men that you have what it takes to STEP UP and GET IT DONE!!

This is a 6000 Push-up Challenge on JUNE 1st! The idea is to do 6,000 push-ups in one month! Ideally you’ll do 200 a day and you can break them up into whatever is a manageable amount for you. I’m going to wake up and knock out 50, do another 50 at lunch, do another 50 after work, and finally do 50 before I go to bed. I don’t care what kind of push-ups you do. You can do them from your knees, you can do them leaning against a wall. The point is to just BRING IT and do them anyway you can! I want to get as many of you all doing this with me so we can all feel better and know we are doing something to contribute to a healthy life.

What matters is who can do more collectively, the men or the women. 6000 is just a goal to shoot for. If you can do more, great! If you can only do half that, GOOD FOR YOU! That is an accomplishment in itself!

What is Shakeology and what have you done with my LUNCH? | My Discovery of Shakeology

So, I have been priding myself on eating clean for the last 6 months while doing my two rounds of P90x and P90x Plus.  I have made changes in my diet that I would have never guessed I would have ever done let alone let myself do.

My History:

Before finding Beachbody and P90x was a long one of doing WeightWatchers multiple times and actually being successful at losing weight on it.  WeightWatchers included eating whatever I could as long as it was under a certain number of points.  The quality of food didn’t really matter as long as I could beat the system and meet my points value.  That included multiple diet soda’s a day, popcorn, 1pt this and 1pt that, frozen meals, fast food, etc.  Most of which were fast and convenient but lacked nutritional value.  At the time it was fine and yes I lost weight but I still never benefited nutritionally from what I was eating.  My body didn’t feel satisfied and when I felt hungry I knew it was working.

After gaining 30 lbs back and trying Weight Watchers again, I just couldn’t do it. My body was done with the processed foods and the way I felt intaking the processed foods, even if they were low calorie.

When I started p90x I originally told myself I could do Weight Watchers while doing this intense workout.  After 2 days, I read the Nutrition guide because I just didn’t have the energy to get through the workouts.  So, I made the decision to wipe out the pantry and the fridge of all processed foods I would eat.  Since I have two little ones at home and a husband who’s staple food was Pizza I couldnt wipe out their food right away.

Once I wiped out the junk, including the Diet soda I felt satisfied and had enough energy for these Extreme workouts.  While it was a hard adjustment at first I just felt good about doing it.  Some of the drastic changes that I made was I started only using Whole Grains which was actually an easy transition for my kids, they couldnt tell the difference between these grains and bread and what they were used to.

I decreased my consumption of diary and replaced it with things like Almond and Soy Milk.  I put things like soy chorizo in with my ground turkey to give it a smokey, beefy taste that my whole family could enjoy without feeling like they were being “cheated”.

Once I got the hang of this it, I made the choice to completely doing something great for myself and my family and became a Beachbody Coach.  This way I could share what I knew and what I experienced with others that were striving to become healthy and fit.  After I became a coach I started seeing other coaches post about Shakeology this and Shakeology that and finally said “I need to see what this hype is all about”.  So I figured with my Coaching Discount Shakeology was totally worth trying what was touted as the Best Meal of the Day.  I was so excited to get the individual packets in the mail and couldn’t wait to try it.

I looked on my own Shakeology site for recipes to enhance the Shakeology experience and found one I knew my husband would try.

  • 1/2 cup Almond Milk (didn’t tell him at first),
  • 1/2 Banana,
  • 1 Tbsp All Natural Peanut Butter, Ice and Chocolate Shakeology was the recipe I would first try.

I first showed my husband the Nutrition Label which consists of 70+ Incredible ingredients which mimic going to the Salad Bar 5 times.  His initial reaction was “EWE”.

Then I had him try the above recipe and the look on his face was priceless.  The next thing I did was have my daughters try it (age 6 and 3), and I was lucky to get the Magic Bullet cup that it was in back.  They were theives and thought that it was a chocolate smoothie (aha! I thought their fruits and veggies and they didnt even know it).  So, we knew right a way that the chocolate Shakeology was going to be a keeper in our household.

So, the next day we tried the Greenberry Shakeology, which by looks was scary but we were unbelievably surprised at the taste. REALLY!!  My favorite Greenberry Shakeology would be ice, 1/2 cup Orange Juice, 1/2 Banana.  It is a nice refreshing taste, a nice change from the rich chocolate.

My routine now consists of one nice hearty Shakeology a day and mostly for lunch.  I am so satisfied with the taste and the fact that it is filling that I just had to write about it.  Even more exciting is that everytime I make it at home with my kids around the first thing out of their mouth is “Can I have a sip?”, and my wonderful husband who at one time in my life was worried about enjoys something incredibly healthy.

Turbofire and Hockey, what?? Yes even Men’s Hockey!

Ok, so I posted a while back how p90x has made an enormous difference in my Hockey Game.  I would also post how a round of  Insanity has made an enormous difference in my Hockey Game but the day before I was scheduled to do the entire 60 days, I blocked a Slapshot with my Kneecap.  Guess my very heavily padded shinguards need to be replaced. So I attempted a couple weeks of Insanity until I realized it was doing me no good, considering I was competing in the Womens National Hockey Tournament in Green Bay, WI in a few weeks, I needed to heal my injury, so upperbody work was emphasized.  I used P90x, P90x+, and some Insanity (skipping the deep knee moves).  By the time Nationals came I was still in tip top shape, I could skate for days even with a bum knee.

Fast Forward to now and I am finally able to maintain deep flexion in my knee (oh didnt mention, that my knee that was hit with the puck fractured and healed but I overcompensated and injured my other knee 🙁 that has been my nemisis).  Still cant kneel completely but I am able to do Insanity without any pain.  So, the reason I am writing this post is because of the much anticipated TURBOFIRE, created by Chalene Johnson and Steve Edwards (one of the creators of P90x).

I am not a fitness “class” type person, I have always been “one of the guys” that is why I was turned onto p90x originally, great I can do it at home and not look like a goofball trying to get choreography down.  So, when Turbofire was originally mentioned I didnt think anything of it.  Until, I spoke with Steve Edwards at the 2010 Coaches Summit about the program.  He basically said P90x is going to be a game changer.  With this High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT you can burn calories 9 times faster, proven.  Boy my ears perked up with that comment and thought of Insanity.  Well Insanity is Interval Training as well and a killer cardio workout, where you are just dead.  The Insanity program is 60 days straight.  Here is the most exciting part of the upcoming TurboFire, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO — USE IT WITH OTHER PROGRAMS SUCH AS P90x and Chalene Extreme.  YES!! I can still do my muscle/weight resistance training and burn calories on these HIIT days.  How cool is that.

HIIT workouts  “will involve some bursts of “all-out” training followed by periods of lower intensity that allow for active recovery (this means your body can recover somewhat even though you haven’t completely stopped exercising).” from naturalphysiques.com .  We all know that Hockey is exactly that sprint to the puck, then skate, sprint to the puck, then skate.  So not only will the P90x help in strength but TURBOFIRE will help with endurance and you will be able to skate FOREVER.

Now for you MALE hockey players out there, don’t be afraid, really, and I will tell you why.  Because I subscribe to Tony Horton‘s One on One workouts I received a free preview TURBOFIRE 15 min HIIT workout.  The first time I plugged it in I did it by myself without my hockey playing Husband.  Oh My gosh, my heart rate was through the roof and I was literally “burning up”.  Chalene’s ALARM went off and it was go, go, go, then recover.  I also had my BodyBugg on to really see what the calorie burn was like.  Unbelievable, I burned 240 cals in 15 min, what????? I thought there is no way, so next time I was going to enlist (force) my husband to do it with me to see what his take was on it.  Put it in and yes once again, over 200 cals burned in just 15 min most importantly, my husband loved it.  His quote “I like this one because its short and you really feel like you are doing something”, which of course brought a smile on my face.

So, come June 18th when the TurboFire program will be on Sale Officially, I will be first in line.  I can’t wait to use the workouts with my p90x and Skate circles around those men I play with on Thursday nights.  Hello Turbo Fire!!
